Founded in 1963, the Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit community clinic that provides
treatment services and testing services:
psychotherapy,
educational therapy,
psychological testing and
educational testing to youth and adults.
The Center sponsors lectures
for educators and mental health professionals, and
offers training
in the specialty of child psychotherapy.
The agency is named in memory of Ann Martin, MD, a pioneering behavioral
pediatrician and youth advocate. Dr. Martin was among the first
in California to lead research on psychological and educational
intervention for social-emotional problems in childhood.
We have a multi-disciplinary staff that includes learning specialists
(several with a credential in educational therapy), psychologists,
social workers, marriage family therapists, and psychiatrists.
The Center assists over 900 youth and adults annually through 24,000
hours of treatment services. Families are primarily from Alameda
County with 60 percent living in Oakland. About 55 percent of our
clients are African-American, Latino, or Asian.
We have three clinic locations in Piedmont and Oakland and six
school-based programs in the Oakland Public Schools. Our school-based
programs deliver psychotherapy to disadvantaged students with serious
emotional troubles so that they can best benefit from their public
education.
Ann Martin Center is funded by government contracts with
Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services Agency,
foundation grants, private donations, and client fees.
How you can help
