Speech-Language Pathology & Educational Therapy: How the work of one enhances the other and the overlap of the disciplines

Presenter:
Amy E. Faltz, MS, CCC-SLP
Date:
Friday, February 24
Time:
12:30 - 2:00 pm

Many times, students with speech and language disorders are also being serviced at the same time by educational therapists.  The relationship between language development, reading, writing and spelling is well documented in the literature of the two fields.  The collaboration of the professionals working with the student is crucial to the success of any one approach, particularly since there is often overlap of the services and programs being provided.  This presentation will focus on the common areas of concern for language disordered and learning impaired students.  What work does the speech pathologist provide?  How is this different from the educational therapy program?  What common ground is covered?  Case studies will be provided along with time for questions and answers.

Amy E. Faltz is a pediatric speech and language pathologist in private practice in Oakland and Albany.  Faltz Associates, Inc., open in the East Bay since 1979 with a staff of 5 full time SLP's, services children from ages 18 months to 18 years with a wide variety of disabilities.  Amy has worked extensively with all ages focusing much of her therapy on the issues of language/learning disabled children.
