Ann Martin Center has a two-year, psychodynamically-oriented Advanced Clinical Internship Program. The program is open to pre- and post-graduate level clinicians in the fields of psychology, clinical social work and marriage and family therapy. A minimum of two years clinical experience and an interest in psychoanalytic theory and psychodynamic therapy are required.
The training program involves carrying a minimum ten hour/week clinical caseload made up of primarily children and adolescents and their families, along with some adult individual therapy cases. Most of the clinical work takes place in the after-school and evening hours on weekdays and throughout the day on Saturdays. Trainees have the option of increasing their clinical hours and range of clinical activities (by taking on additional psychological assessments or participating in the group therapy program) in order to create a full-time schedule during one or both years, if desired. However, the two-year commitment is required, regardless of part- or full-time status, because of the long-term nature of most of the clinical work done at the Center. Part-time positions require on average 24 hours/week and full-time positions average 40 hours/week. A modest stipend is available to trainees whereby they are paid for the hours of clinical service they provide.
The training includes (minimally) three hours/week individual supervision, one hour/week of group supervision and five weekly clinical seminars. These seminars take place Monday and Wednesday mornings, 8:30 AM-1 PM. There are additional weekly seminars that trainees can attend as electives. Finally, there is a required monthly staff meeting that takes place once/month, on the third Wednesday September thru June from 7:30-9 PM.
Supervision and training is provided in accordance with the requirements of the Board of Behavioral Sciences (for LCSW and MFT licensing) and the Board of Psychology (for psychology licensing). Ann Martin Center is a member of CAPIC and follows the annual CAPIC schedule for application deadlines and uniform notification.
Between 8-10 interns are selected each year. Internships begin in July and September, with the incoming group distributed between those start dates.
